Ice Age Iowa
Have you ever wondered why so many animals were so large? How did humans hunt them for food or other resources? This presentation will examine what Iowa was like during the “Ice Age” nearly 13,000 years ago when people began moving into Iowa. Cherie Haury-Artz from the University of Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist will talk about plants and animals that lived here and examine some samples of megafauna that have been excavated in Iowa. She will also show some of the tools that these early residents used as they hunted these large creatures. This is a program that you won’t want to miss!
Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact in advance at
