Join us for a public conversation for faculty, students and staff from across campus about the work of Scholars at Risk to protect and promote academic freedom worldwide. SAR staff representatives Clare Farne Robinson (Director of Advocacy Programs) and Adam Braver (Student Advocacy Seminar Coordinator and Author) will offer remarks on the current state of academic freedom globally, the evolving definition and implementation framework for academic freedom within international law and policy, and the growing international movement to recognize academic freedom as a human right, as well as and the important role of students in university communities worldwide in realizing academic freedom and raising awareness on behalf of scholars who are targeted by state actors. The event is organized by the UI Center for Human Rights.

Scholars At Risk has engaged for 25 years in building a network of university and collegiate communities across the world. The University of Iowa has been a member university of the SAR network since its founding and is engaged through students in the Human Rights Certificate Program and has historically worked with the International Writing Program to host short-term scholar residencies.
